InterACT+

The project

The overall objective of the InterACT+ project is to contribute to and enhance the socio-economic integration of migrants (beneficiaries of international protection (BIPs) and other third-country nationals (TCNs) into the Romanian society. The intervention is designed to continue the provision of tailored integration assistance to vulnerable migrants provided by IOM and its partners, in partnership with the Romanian Government, over the past decade. 

The project team is organizing educational activities for migrants legally residing in Romania – children and adults. The activities include, but are not limited to Romanian language courses, orientation sessions, financial education, registration of children into school, etc. 

A special emphasis is placed on the empowerment of migrant women that are participating in group counseling and/or discussion sessions held by the counsellors. 

The project provides TCNs with information and counselling tailored to their needs. As in the case of BIPs, vulnerable migrants seeking extended support is provided: Romanian language courses, skills assessment, budget management training, etc. A community participatory and inclusive approach is a prerequisite for migrant integration, as well as for local development. The support of volunteers and intercultural mediators, especially with a migration background, during the implementation of previous integration projects proved extremely useful in building bridges between migrants and the host community. Their direct contact with the migrant communities can support the needs analysis and the prioritization of the activities that need to be carried out to better respond to their needs at local level.
