Access to health under conditions of non-discrimination and universality is a fundamental right of every person. The pilot project implemented by the Region of Crete, in collaboration with the Health Region and the Greek national health authorities, aims at making health services more inclusive and at enhancing knowledge about specific migrants’ health needs by promoting an intercultural approach to service and information provision.

The initiative entails the setting up of Info Desks in hospitals so as to provide information to migrants, starting by assessing the prevalent needs and gaps in service provision, with the support of relevant stakeholders and intercultural mediators. Intercultural mediators are professionals who work at the hospitals during peak hours and are also available by phone when urgent support is needed. They bridge the gap and promote mutual understanding between health professionals and migrant service users.
