Practices Education

The Livada Elementary School experience

Integrating migrant children, inclusive intercultural practices and educational approaches.

The project

The Livada Elementary School is an example of a good practice in successfully integrating migrant children and a leader of pioneering and inclusive intercultural practices and educational approaches in Slovenia. Their approach is innovative, as in addition to the pupil preparatory process, they also have an “introductory” and “continuation” process, where children – in addition to learning Slovene language – acquire practical skills on how to integrate in their new communities. Pupils can also receive additional individual and/or group support. This process allows children to easily integrate into their new school curriculum and among their peers. The school’s innovative approach to inclusive educational system has been recognized as a good practice that provides solutions to the challenges of the educational system and local communities.

The teachers at Livada School recognized the need for additional Slovene language classes and an innovative approach to contribute to the existing measures for inclusive education. Their approach provides a solution for the challenge’s migrant children face, from social exclusion, difficulties in learning Slovene language as well as integrating in their new communities.

The impact of the good practice

With this project, the Elementary School Livada has been able to continue their innovative work in developing practices in the school and local environment in response to the specific needs and specificities in their local community.
