Regional meeting on integration of status holders
Hart van Brabant region, the Netherlands
Starting in 2019, the Hart van Brabant region (region of 11 municipalities in the south of the Netherlands with Tilburg as the center municipality) began to organize 2-3 meetings per year in which the network of partners (municipalities, language schools, educational institutions, civil society organizations etc.) meet to exchange knowledge and expertise on reception, housing, and integration of status holders. These meetings were originally intended to prepare for the New Integration Act and the national programme to make the asylum process more flexible and to jointly review what the needs are for a smooth and efficient execution.
On Thursday the 3rd of November, the municipality of Tilburg organized the last partner meeting for the year of 2022, in collaboration with Includ-EU. During the event, updates were shared about the execution of the New Integration Act and break-out sessions were organized to exchange best practices between municipalities and other stakeholders on current integration processes.
Furthermore, members of the Refugee Advisory Board presented about the board and updates on the matters they have provided advice on. The pilot initiative of the Refugee Advisory Board is based upon the starting point that ‘nothing about us, without us’, bringing third country nationals together to provide advice on migration policies and their implementation in the region to ensure it encapsulates the needs of migrants.
The municipality will organize, in collaboration with Includ-EU, another meeting in the first half of 2023 to facilitate further knowledge exchange in the region.
