The project
The goal of the project The challenges of intercultural coexistence is to help develop the values of interculturalism and to improve the professional competences of education managers and professionals for the successful integration of migrant children with a different linguistic and cultural background into the Slovenian educational system. The project aims to ensure that professionals working with migrant children, teachers working on the project, and professionals working in educational institutions that include migrant children undergo appropriate training. The project’s added value is the role of the multiplier teacher who acts as focal point and connects the school with other institutions and organizations in the local community on one side, and the parents on the other side. Therefore, an individual approach in the teaching methods, formal but also informal educational activities, as well as professional assistance from multiplier teachers are considered as crucial for successful integration in the educational system and local communities.
The project addressed challenges such as the need for a systemic work program for migrant and provided practical solutions that were tested in primary and secondary schools.
The impact of the good practice
The added value of the project is that is succeeded in the job systematization of teachers for Slovene as a second foreign language. The number of teachers is defined proportionally, based on the number of immigrant pupils at the school; the same teacher can be employed at multiple schools in the same local community. Introduction of the role of multipliers into schools. The role of multipliers would need to be systemized in order to ensure sustainability.
